Jensen & Bugge Band!
In 2011 it’s ten ago years since accordion player Mette Kathrine Jensen and fiddle player Kristian Bugge formed the folk music duo, Jensen & Bugge. To celebrate that, they’ve gathered their new and exciting”Aniversary Band” with whom they will be joined by guitar/vocal, clarinet and double bass for a lot of concerts in the near future. Jensen & Bugge already met as kids when they lived at 3 kms distance from each other - near Vejle, including went to folk dancing together. Although they got on the bus at the same stop through most of the school years, it lasted long before they discovered that they shared interest in playing folk music. In fact they only really came to enjoy each other's company, after they both in (in 2001) atended the studies at the Carl Nielsen Music Academy in Odense.
Since that, they have played for lots of dancing and concerts in Denmark and many other countries, such as USA, Canada, Faroe Islands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, South Corea and Poland.
Both Mette and Kristian have won coveted prizes at Danish Music Award Folk. In 2007 Mette Kathrine Jensen was awarded traditional artist of the year, and in 2006 at the same event Kristian Bugge recieved the awards for debut and instrumentalist of the year! In januar 2011 Jensen & Bugge recorded for the CD "Sea & Land - 10 years with Danish traditional music", including the aniversary band. The CD was released on the record company GO Danish Folk Music, on April 7th!
The release was celebrated April 7-10th at this year’s FolkBALTICA festival, which takes place on both sides of the border between Denmark and Germany. That was the very first time you could meet and listen/dance to the aniversary band, a double WORLD PREMIER for the CD as well as the band!

The band: Morten Alfred Høirup (guitar, vocals) has in the past 25 years performed with his music over large parts of Europe, Canada, USA, Japan and Australia, written numerous articles for Danish and international magazines and websites, and worked as music journalist and host of a series of radio programs on the Danish Broadcasting Corporation www.mortenalfred.dk
Bjarke Kolerus (clarinet) actually almost finished a classical education - but with his raw personal playing style on the clarinet and vast knowledge of the klezmer tradition he seems to have forgotten almost everything they taught him. Bjarke often plays Klezmer music in different contexts (Klezmofobia, Chamber Klezmer Connection, Channe Nussbaum quartet). In this constellation he finally gets the opportunity to live out his passion for Danish folk music with its images like Viggo Post and the Tinus Brothers. He also works as Clarinet professor at the national higher education of folk music. www.klezmofobia.dk
Thomas Hedegaard (double bass) is very active on the Copenhagen jazz scene and is graduated from The Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in 2007 where he studied at the same time as Mette and Kristian. In 2003 he was selected to play in the European Youth Jazz Orchestra, and has also received a scholarship from the Leonie Sonning Foundation to make a longer trip to New York, Havana and Rio de Janeiro to study the rhythmic music roots. Until now, his career stretched over genres such as reggae, klezmer, world, rock, jazz, folk and blues, with tours in eg South Korea, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Sweden and Norway. Currently, he can be heard plying with Catfish (Blues) and Jensen & Bugge Band.
