Over sundet
Danish folk quartet Over Sundet represent a new approach to music in Denmark. They want to transcend habitual musical thinking and traditional generic boundaries while using inspirations from all over the world. The band's sound has as its base in the raw power and mystique of traditional music, but weaves in classical and jazz elements to form a unique, and inventive sound.
The members of the band have backgrounds in classical, folk, balkan and jazz music, and the different styles all have an influence on the music.
Over Sundet's debut album, made up of original tracks, was released in december 2009 from the label “Go Danish Folk Music”. The band has since their debut toured around Denmark to present their music to the Danes. They are now planning a tour in Germany and Sweden to bring their music outside of Denmark.
“…they create something new, exciting and different. A winner”. — says Chris Norman from American Magasin “Sing Out”.
“They brought together Scandinavian traditions in their own high quality compositions. The composers listened very well to the structures and atmosphere of the folk tradition without neglecting the fact that we are living in the 21st century. They gave their music a timeless sound which is great to listen to now and in the next five hundred years. Great debut!”
